Our symphony
Our symphony
We sit together in the concert hall
amongst the general chatter of middle class men,
the laughter of enthusiastic wives,
the toasting of prosecco,
the gentle tuning of the orchestra.
I look at you and see you waiting,
I'm not sure what for,
until I hear it -
a deicate A from the oboist;
the room falls silent and the lights around us dim.
How lonely it sounds,
the vast hall filled by a single note,
until the rest of the orchestra joins and the hall is brought together and to life by one single note.
you squeeze my hand,
knowing how excited I was.
You smile a knowing smile and I blush,
grinning into my hair.
The Halle begin to play my favourite symphony,
I forget about the world around us;
the middle class men and their laughing wives,
all I remember is the orchestra,
and your hand.
We leave after a long round of applause,
you catch me as I fall in my heels,
laughing.
Outside,
it's dark and the moon shines proudly,
lighting up the sky like the lonely A from the oboist.
I hear the symphony again in my head as you take my face with your gentle hand,
and kiss me.
Brahms 3,
it's our symphony.
