Cold bitter silence
Cold bitter silence
In silence,
we walk through the snow together.
my feet have no feeling,
as the wet snow seeps through the tops of my shoes.
and you,
in your hardened boots,
remain dry.
we're both in silence,
just the crunching under our feet can be heard in the empty space around us.
we're so distant,
it's almost like you're not there.
The miles between us are filled with nothing but cold, bitter air.
It's completely silent,
until you say:
"I think it's better if we just..."
and your voice is caught by the cold bitter air.
your words are stolen as my heart is torn away by the icy air between us.
why do we do this?
it always ends this way yet somehow,
we always find our way back to one another.
and in the silence,
just like that,
as though he had read my mind:
his hand takes my small cold hand and a sorry is heard.
I am wrapped around his litter finger once again,
as he picks me up out of the cold snow and fills the air between us with his mouth.
